About the Maud Hart Lovelace Award

The Maud Hart Lovelace Award is a children's choice book award sponsored by MN Youth Reading Awards and voted on by Minnesota students in March of each year. The winners are announced on April 25, author Maud Hart Lovelace's birthday. Nominated titles are works of fiction of recognized quality selected by independent regional reading groups.

Students in grades 3-5 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Division I nominee list and students in grades 6-8 who have read or listened to at least three titles from the Division II nominee list are eligible to vote for the award.

Take the Newbery Challenge!

Are you up to the challenge of reading all of the Newbery Medal Award winners? The first award was given in 1922!

The Newbery Challenge is for kids, adults, and families. To begin, pick up a form at the library.

You'll get a metal bookmark for the first ten Newbery books you read, and a bead to add to the bookmark for every ten thereafter.

Take your time reading the books--there's no time limit.

When you complete them all, we'll engrave your name on a plaque honoring your accomplishment.
