Summer Reading Program 2017: Home

Summer Reading Program

This year's Summer Reading Program theme is "Build a Better World." Register and pick up reading logs on June 7. Redeem for prizes and join in our free summer activities--including one-on-one reading with Reading Buddies--starting Tuesday, June 13.

Want to help build a better world? Instead of a prize for yourself, choose to have Cub or Post donate to the Northfield Community Action Center Food Shelf.

Books & Stars

Books & Stars is a free summer family entertainment series on Wednesday evenings in Northfield parks. See the 2017 schedule here

Summer Reading: Free Activities Schedule

Free drop-in activities every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 12-3pm starting Tues, June 13 and running through Thurs, July 27! Additional outdoor games and fun every week, as weather permits.

   JUNE 13-15: LEGO WEEK!

Accept challenges or build what you want! We’ll have Snap Circuits and Brain Flakes to build with, too.

JUNE 20-22 ALL THINGS PAPER WEEK

Origami, airplanes, pop-up cards, using augmented reality to bring a drawing to life, and more!

   JUNE 27-29 CARDBOARD WEEK

Giant Jenga, cardboard construction sets (keep one!), build what you want, & more. Domino’s is providing pizza for summer readers at 12 on Thursday (while it lasts!)

   JULY 5-6 LEGO WEEK RETURNS!

Note: short week--library closed July 4

  JULY 11-13 BETTER WORLD WEEK

Make reusable bags from t-shirts on July 11 (bring your own or use one of ours), make kindness rocks, and make cat toys for the  cats at Prairie’s Edge Humane Society.

   JULY 18-20 ENGINEERING WEEK

Build roller coasters, catapults you can take home, and more!

   JULY 25-27 PAPER WEEK RETURNS!

Because our library pages REALLY love origami. Domino’s is providing pizza for summer readers at 12 on Thursday (while it  lasts!)

Reading Buddies: Tues-Thurs from 9-11am

From 9-11am starting Tuesday, June 13 and ending Thursday, June 27, rising 1st through rising 5th graders can read one-on-one with a library page Reading Buddy! This is a drop-in, first-come, first served program. Practice reading aloud with your buddy, or have your buddy read to you. Time spent reading with a Reading Buddy counts towards your summer reading log!
